General

What can I expect from a commission?

We use 100% genuine LEGO® bricks in all our builds. Some models may include hidden steel supports or glued parts for stability — but quality is always our top priority.

It depends on the size, level of detail, and our current project pipeline. Most builds use bricks we have in stock, but larger or more complex models can take longer. Once we receive your brief, we’ll give you an estimated timeline.

Pricing varies based on the size and complexity of your build. The best way to get started is to get in touch — we’ll talk through your ideas and provide an estimate.

Sometimes — it depends on the model. LEGO® bricks stick together pretty well on their own, but for bigger builds (especially ones that travel or go on display), we’ll often use glue to keep everything safe and secure. No one wants a giant LEGO® banana toppling over!

No, we don’t sell bricks or sets. For that, check out official LEGO® stores or the LEGO® Pick-a-Brick service online.

Brickman Team

Where do you build – do you have a special room?

We sure do! We have a dedicated workshop where the Brickman team works together. It’s a LEGO® lover’s paradise — wall-to-wall bricks, models in progress, and lots of creative energy.

Honestly? It’s awesome. We feel really lucky to do what we love every day. No two builds are the same, and every project brings new challenges — which keeps things fun and exciting.

We occasionally hire new team members, especially experienced LEGO® builders or creatives with design, engineering, or art backgrounds. If you’re interested in joining us, get in touch — we’d love to hear from you!

Not at the moment, but we get asked a lot! We are currently not accepting internships right now. Keep an eye on our social channels for any future opportunities.

Very carefully — and with a lot of help! We organise bricks by colour first, then by type and size. Smaller parts are sorted by function (like clips, SNOT bricks, etc.) into labelled boxes. It’s a big job, which is why we have a full-time Inventory Manager keeping everything in order!

All our LEGO® parts come directly from the LEGO Group. Because of our work with them, we have access to a huge variety of bricks — over 5 million at last count! Safe to say, we’ve got the biggest LEGO® collection in Australia.

Yes! Ryan has won several, including “Best in Show” at Brickvention (Australia’s biggest LEGO® show) — twice! He also placed in the top 4 at Brickworld in the U.S. and won “Best MEGA Creation” for his 250,000-piece Love Boat model.

It’s all about creativity. LEGO® is our medium — like clay or paint — and we love using it to bring ideas to life. The fun is in figuring out how to turn something complex into something brick-built. The challenge is what keeps us going!

Build amazing creations every day, it’s an awesome career and has many new challenges.

Our studio isn’t open to the public, but you can see our work up close at exhibitions across Australia and around the world. Check out our Exhibitions page to find one near you!

Exhibitions

What are the next locations for your exhibitions?

The best way to stay up to date with upcoming exhibitions and tour dates is by joining our mailing list and checking out our Exhibitions page.

We’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch with our exhibitions team here.

Stay tuned! We regularly announce new exhibitions via our mailing list and social media channels. Keep an eye out for updates.

Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught

How long has Ryan been building with LEGO®?

Ryan got his first LEGO® set when he was just 3 years old. He built non-stop until his teenage years, around 14 or 15. It wasn’t until he had children of his own — and his mum pulled out his old LEGO® collection — that he rediscovered his love for it. That was around 2008, and he hasn’t stopped building since!

Ryan loved LEGO® from the moment he got his first set at 3. One of his earliest memories is building a little ship while sitting at the feet of his grandad in a big reclining chair. As a kid, LEGO® was all he ever wanted for Christmas — the LEGO catalogue was his most-read book!

His passion was reignited as an adult when LEGO® released an updated version of Mindstorms. The combination of technology and creativity hooked him again, and he began exploring robotics with LEGO®. That interest evolved into a professional journey — and eventually, becoming a LEGO® Certified Professional.

Ryan got inspiration when he was young from all sorts of places; TV shows, books, things that he liked. For example, he used to make lots of things from Cartoon shows when he was younger. It wasn’t anyone in particular that influenced him- it was more the subject matter.

While working as CIO of a media company, Ryan got involved with LEGO® Mindstorms through school robotics programs. That led to meeting some LEGO® team members and collaborating on projects. At the time, LEGO® was expanding its Certified Professional program and didn’t have anyone representing the Asia-Pacific region. They encouraged Ryan to apply — and the rest is history!

One of the first things Ryan built after rediscovering LEGO® was a small-scale model of Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station, about 75 cm long.

Ryan loves building his own creations but he does have a few favourites — particularly the Modular Building series, Creator Expert cars, and Technic sets.

That would be Brickman: Star Wars™, the exhibition that took over 3 years to complete. It features some of the biggest and most technically complex models Ryan and the team have ever created — in both scale and detail.

Ryan’s schedule is packed — between travelling for exhibitions, filming LEGO® Masters, and building new models in the studio. For media or special enquiries, please contact us here.
